Biography

Hardy Box was born in approx 1815, in Georgia, USA.

Hardy, was a son of Jonathan and Elizabeth (Bolton) Box. He married Abbey Hulsey on July 31, 1838 in Paulding Co., GA and he and his family traveled with his father, mother and other siblings, and arrived in Butler Co., MO to establish roots. He and Abbey had 3 sons: Reuben, William and Dennis and possibly 1 daughter Sarah.

After Abbey's death (unknown date and location), Hardy married Hester Ann King on February 20, 1848 in Butler Co. They had 10 children: Simeon, Nancy Ann Box Ferguson, Jonathan Shields, Elizabeth Rachel Box Boyer, Lydia A, Henry W (or M), Tabitha E., my G-Grandfather Maston Wiley "Matthew", Andrew Jackson, and James Marion.

He firstly married Abbey Hulsey on July 31 1838, in Paulding County, Georgia, USA [1]

He then married Hester Ann King, on 20 February 1848, in Butler, Missouri, USA. [2]

The 1850 census taken in Butler county, Butler, Missouri, showed Hardy, a farmer, age 35, with his new wife Hester, age 21 and children Ruben 13, William age 12, Dennis age 8 and Simeon age 1. It is assumed that the three older children, all born in Georgia, were from Hardy's first marriage, while 1 year old Simeon born in Missouri was from his 2nd marriage. Also in the household was 12 year old Sarah Box, born in Tennessee. [3]

Hardy was still living in Butler, Missouri with his family when the 1860 census was taken, he was shown as age 47 and a farmer, living with his wife Hester age 30, and children William age 20, Nancy age 11, Jonathan age 8, Elizabeth age 6, Lydia age 3, and Harry age 1. Hardy's 91 year old father Jonathan Box, born in South Carolina, was also living with them. [4]

The family were living in Cane Creek, Butler, Missouri in 1870. Hardy, (on the census as Hardie Baux) was age 59, and was living with his wife Hester, and children Jonathan, Elizabeth, Henry, Tabitha, Wiley and Andrew. His son William with wife Elizabeth and baby Hardie were living next door [5]
