Biography

James F. Box was born 1787 in Laurens County, South Carolina, USA. He passed away on 13 Aug 1860 in St. Clair County, Alabama, USA James Box, an illegitimate son of Henry Box, was evidently half Cherokee and was given status as a legitimate son by the Alabama Legislature on November 22, 1827 as a result of a petition by Henry Box.

James Box was a private in Capt. McLemore's Company of Cherokee Volunteers in the War of 1812 and was granted 160 acres for his service. On April 8 1868, Henry W. Box, administrator of the Estate of said James Box, deceased, assigned the grant of 160 acres to George McDougall.
