Biography

Henry was born about 1796. He married Nancy Dunn in 1822.[1] He passed away about 1863.

On August 17, 1813, Henry Box, age 18 and born in Lawrence (Laurens), SC was enrolled by Capt. McClellan for a period of 5 years as a private in the 7th US Infantry in Franklin, PA. His enlistment papers described him as 5'6'’, blue eyed, light haired and fair complexion, laborer.

His record shows he served in the following companies: Aug 17,1813 to May 30, 1814 ??? Capt William H. McClellan’s Co. 7th Regt. US Infantry .......June 1, 1814 to June 30, 1814 as listed in Kentucky Roster of War of 1812; Regt commanded by Col. William Russell who fought in Battle of Kings Mountain.

Capt. G. C. Allen’s Co. 7th Infantry until June 30. 1815; Capt. Isaac L. Baker’s Co. 1st US Infantry until Dec. 31, 1816; Capt. A Gray’s Co. 1st US Infantry until Oct 31 1817; Capt. Jno. Jones Co. 1st US Infantry until August 16, 1818 when he was discharged

On June 8, 1819, there was a Land Warrant issued to Henry Box, a private in the company commanded by Captain John Jones of the 1st Regt US Infantry for 160 acres.

Pension Application Files, War of 1812; Death or Disability; (no file) but stamped a “old war” invalid and widow rejected.

This seems to be Henry Box, Jr, son of Henry Box, Sr. of Laurens Co. SC and St. Clair Co. AL.

In the 1850 Census of St Clair County, AL, Henry Box, Sr. age 54, b. in SC was listed with his wife, Nancy Box, age 47, b. in SC with 9 children in their hh, all under age 26 and born in AL.. On the same page (in District 40 of St Clair County), Henry W, Box, age 29, b. in Tennessee was also listed with his wife, Telitha L., age 29, b. in SC with 4 children in their hh, all under age 10 and born in AL.

In the 1860 Census of St. Clair County, AL , Henry Box, Sr, age 64, b. in SC was listed with his wife, Nancy Box, age 57, b. in SC with 3 of their children still in their hh. However, 3 of their sons (Wiseman, Allen, and Henry , Jr. and probably 1 daughter, Martha, were in separate hh near their parents. Henry W. Box was listed on the same page of the Census.

Somewhere, and I honestly don't remember where nor noted it's source, I was told his middle name was Joseph. Perhaps because he is my great grandfather and this information was passed down?

Box-918 and Box-976 do not represent the same person because: Information now changed to represent correct info for Martha's father Henry
