Dorothy was born in 1912, in the province of Transvaal, South Africa.
She married Leonard de Villiers in October 1933, when she was 21 and he was 26. She was working as a shop assistant at the time, and living at 19 Andrews Street, Kenilworth at the time. Leonard was 26 years old, working as a Blacksmith and living at 83 Tramway Street, Turffontein [1].
