Biography

Jack (John Henry Cooke) Boyce was born at Fernside, Toowoomba, on 18 March 1892.[1] In World War I he joined the Third Field Artillery Brigade Headquarters as a driver on 29 August 1914, Number 2369. Jack embarked aboard Rangitira with the first Queensland contingent on 25 September 1914, fought at Gallipoli and returned to Australia on 21 January 1916. He worked as a manager in an auctioneering business, perhaps that of his brother Charlie; he was engaged to Inez Moran but never married. Jack died at Ayr, drowning in the Burdekin River, aged 30 on 16 January 1923. He was buried in the Ayr Cemetery with his elder brother Charles George Martin Boyce.
