In 1851, John and Emily (Unknown) Boice/Boyce were living in in the village of Yarker in Camden East with his parents William and Margaret Boyce, and a one-year old identified as Allen. William farmed, John worked as a Carpenter, and the family's religion is listed as Episcopalian Methodist.[1][3]
In 1861 John and Emily (Unknown) Boice/Boyce were living in the village of Sydenham, Loughborough, where John was again working as a carpenter. Their child, Allen, listed on the 1851 Census, appears to have died in the interim, and three more children had been born. The family's religion was now listed as Wesleyan Methodist.[4]
