Thurs 11 May 1944 OBITUARY Mr. H. R. Boyce The death occurred yesterday morning at his residence, Hodgeman Road, Pennington of Mr. Harold R. Boyce of the Customs Department, Port Adelaide. Mr. Boyce who was born 51 years ago at Paddington was a son of Mr. R. J. Boyce of Yatala. He enlisted for the first world war in 1915 and became a signaller in C Company, 27th Battalion. He lost an eye in France. While abroad he met Nurse Elsie Middleton in England and they were married in Australia in 1920. After his discharge in 1918 Mr. Boyce joined the staff of the SA Soldiers' Fund and subsequently entered the Taxation Department. He transferred to the Customs' Department in 1924 where he remained until taken ill late last year. Mr. Boyce was secretary of the Port Adelaide Congregational Church for 17 years and treasurer of the church tennis club for 13 years. For more than 20 years he was a deacon of the church. He leaves a widow and four children - Kenneth (RAAF), Mrs. Russell Mead, Margaret and Geoffrey.
