David was born about 1861 in Missouri, the son of David and Catherine Boyd.
In 1870, the Boyd family lived in Jasper, Missouri. The household included David Boyd, 44, born in Missouri, a farmer with $300 in real estate and $375 in personal estate; his wife Catherine, 36, b. Arkansas, who could not write; their six children, John R., 15, who worked on the farm, and in school; William J., 13, worked the farm, in school; Daniel B., 11, in school, could not write; David G. B., 9; Margaret E., 6; and Martha C., 3. All the children were born in Missouri, except for Martha, who was born in in Kansas. [1]
