Immigration to Australia on the Ship Childe Harold, Sailed from Liverpool 11 March 1853, Arrived Geelong 16 June 1853.[2]

  1. George BOYD; Age: 29; Nationality: Scottish; Agricultural labourer, native place Fife; read & write. By whom engaged: on own account. Destination: Geelong.
  2. Margaret BOYD, 32, native place Fife; read & write.
  3. Mary Ann BOYD, native place Fife, age 4, neither read nor write.
  4. William BOYD, native place Fife, age 1; neither read nor write.

All the family were Presbyterian.

William was married to Mary TYLEE (1855-1942), in Victoria, in 1875.[3]

William and Mary had 12 children, all born in Smythesdale between 1876 and 1902:

  1. Thomas (1876-d infancy);
  2. Margaret 'Annie' (1877-1967) m Hedley John WALTER;
  3. Emma 'Alice' (1878-1962) m William Edgar McKENZIE;
  4. George William (1880-1916);

  7. Mabel (1886-1889);
  8. John Oliver (1889-1989) m Violet MILLIGAN;
  9. Mabel Amelia (1892-1988) m Robert BADDELEY;
  10. Robert Melville (1894-1916);
  11. Hilda May (1900-2000) m Daniel 'James' BREWER;
  12. James Leslie (1902-1975) m Elsie May CRESSWELL.

William and Mary were fondly referred to by the CUNNINGHAM family in Tasmania as “Auntie and Uncle BOYD of Geelong”. (Mary Ann Robertson (Boyd) Cunningham (1847-1917) was William's sister)

Death:William died at Argle Gully, near Smythesdale on 13 June 1912. [4]

Death notice:[5] BOYD.— On the 13th June, at his late residence, Smythesdale, William, beloved husband of Mary Boyd, aged 61 years.

His widow Mary moved to Geelong, and died there in 1942.[6]
