Biography

Jane Boyd was born in Ireland, the daughter of William Boy and Margaret Lyons. There is so far no primary source that proves her parentage, only family information. Some family sources also refer to her as "Nancy Jane". She came with her family to South Carolina aboard the Irish Volenteer in 1804. On the same ship was a friend of the family, Robert Weir. They likely married soon after arriving in South Carolina. She and her husband joined the covenanter church and were anti slavery so they migrated North to Randolph Illinois, in the 1820s where they lived for the rest of their lives. Jane outlived her husband by several years, living with her son William.^[1]. She died on 18 Oct 1872 and was buried with her husband at Prairie hill cemetery.
