Adelaide Eulalie Boyer, who mostly went by Eulalie or Lila (pronounced "Lela"), was born in Lafayette, Louisiana c.1815.
[1]
She was a daughter of John "Jacques" Boyer and Anne Francoise Abshire. Her mother was a daughter of the first Louisiana John Abshire and Frances Hargrave. Eulalie's father, John Boyer, is less well-known. Was his name even Boyer? Or was it Bourg, Bourque, Barque, or Brayer, as some records spelled it? There is a theory that John Boyer's family immigrated to southwest Louisiana from the Carolinas with the Drakes and others (her sister Rosalie married a Drake); that they were Melungeons, called Redbones in Louisiana. The different spellings of his name on his records suggests that his language (possibly English) was different from that of the locals.
Eulalie married her cousin Edward Abshire on 16 October, 1832 in Lafayette, Louisiana.[2]
The family lived in Vermilion Parish in 1850, with five children.[3]
She'd had three more children-- though the youngest wasn't listed-- and was widowed by 1860.[4]
She and her two youngest children were living in her daughter and son-in-law's household by 1870.[5]
She died sometime after 1870.
