• Will of Vallendine Steiner In the name of God, Amen, I Vallendine Steiner of Hempfield Twp. Westmoreland Co being now in good health and of sound disposing mind and memory blessed by God for the same, do make this my last will and testament as following to wit: First I recommend my soul to the infinite mercy of the Almighty and desire my body to be interred in a suitable manor as my Executors shall think proper. I give and desire to my son John and his heirs forever the one half of my plantation or tract of land situate on the township aforesaid whereon I live (being a part of the same tract) containing 128 acres adjoining lands of George Seanor, Michael Eisaman and Miliron Meetinghouse, land which I purchased from Christian Miller, and I charge the same half tract of my Plantation with the half part of a decent comfortable support and maintenance of my beloved wife, Catherine, during her life. That is to say, the said John his heirs and assigns, tenants of the freehold, shall be bound to find and provide for the said Catherine the one half of firewood or fuel, a sufficiency of provisions for a comfortable subsistence as long as she shall live. Agreeable to a bond signed by him that said John bearing date of sixth of April 1816. Further, I charge that said one half of the said tract of land or plantation with the payment of one hundred pound of lawful money of Pennsylvania to be paid by said John his heirs or assigns to my four daughters. First to Catherine, wife of Henry Welty of Greensburg the sum of ten pounds money aforesaid one year after my decease, then to my daughter Elizabeth wife of Adam Ashbaugh the sum of ten pounds money aforesaid two years after my decease. Then to my daughter Mary wife of John Kunkle the sum of ten pounds money aforesaid three years after my decease. Then to my daughter Barbara wife of George Ashbaugh the sum of ten pounds money aforesaid four years after my decease. Then to begin at my daughter Catherine to pay her the same sum of ten pounds five years after my decease, then so on ordinary as the one named afore, yearly after others until each of them have received the sum of twenty five pounds from the aforesaid John Steiner, his heirs and assigns. Second, I give and devise to Adam Steiner, a grandchild of mine, a son of my son Adam, deceased, the other half of my plantation or tract of land, and his heirs forever being part of the same tract whereon I live containing 128 acres adjoining the lands of Christian Eisaman, John Slaughterbeck, and Philip Wentzel which I purchased from Christian Miller and I charge that said half tract with a decent and comfortable support and maintenance to my beloved wife Catherine during her life. That is to say the said Adam, his heirs and assigns, tenants of the freehold, shall be bound to find and provide for the said Catherine the same dwelling house in which we now live, to keep the same in good repair, and the one half of firewood or fuel and provisions for a comfortable subsistence as long as she shall live and to her contentment and satisfaction. Agreeable to him, signed by him, the said Adam bearing note signed the sixth day of April 1816. Further I charge the said half plantation with the payment of one hundred pounds lawful money of Pennsylvania to be paid by the said Adam Steiner his heirs and assigns to my four daughters as follows viz: To Catherine the wife of Henry Welty the sum of ten pounds one year after my decease and so on every year to the other three daughters with the same years as John Steiners payments as stated to pay to his sisters. Further, I charge the said Adam Steiner his heirs Executor Administration or assigns with payment of thirty five pounds lawful money of Pennsylvania to be paid in manner following to seven of his brothers and sisters. First to his brother Frederick, the sum of five pounds money aforesaid one year after my decease, Second to his sister Susan the sum of five pounds money aforesaid two years after my decease, Third to his brother Henry the sum of five pounds money aforesaid three years after my decease, Fourth to his sister Catherine the sum of five pounds money aforesaid four years after my decease, Fifth to his sister Mary the sum of five pounds money aforesaid five years after my decease, Sixth to his sister Elizabeth the sum of five pounds money aforesaid six years after my decease, Seventh to his sister Sara the sum of five pounds like money aforesaid seven years after my decease. And further, I give and bequeath to my Executer hereafter mentioned all my personal estate whatsoever remaining therefrom after funeral expenses and my just debts which I may have at my decease. Be it understood that all my personal estate shall remain in the hands of my beloved wife, Catherine so long as she shall live and after her decease what shall remain is to be equity divided among all my heirs. And I do hereby Constitute advise and appoint John Steiner, my son, and Philip Wentzel the executors of this my last will and testament hereby revoking all former wills or bequests by me at any time heretofore made in the witness of where I have hereto set my hand and seal the third day of May 1816.
