Hannah was born at Long Sutton, Lincolnshire, England on 29 September 1843, and her birth was registered in the third quarter of 1843 at Holbeach, Lincolnshire[1]. She was the daughter of William Francis Boyer and Ann Pitts.
In 1851 she was living with her parents, William (an agricultural labourer aged 37) and Ann (a dressmaker aged 42), and four siblings - Jane (13), Henry (11), William (9) and John (5) - at Wisbech Road, Stow Bardolph, Norfolk[2]. She was a scholar aged 7 and born at Long Sutton, Lincolnshire.
Hannah (Boyer) Soper migrated from United Kingdom to Colony of Victoria.
She emigrated to Victoria with her parents and four siblings leaving Liverpool on 28 August 1852 aboard the Marmion, a ship of 290 tons built at Newcastle in 1843[3]. They disembarked at Portland Bay, Victoria on the 4 December 1852.
It was on 6 December 1857 at Cathcart, Colony of New South Wales that William Davis Soper and Hannah Taylor Boyer were married. She was only 14 years old. William and Hannah had three daughters and thirteen sons. The first thee children were born before they moved to New Zealand.
Elizabeth Ann was born at Cooks River, Glebe, Colony of New South Wales (1859[4] - 1859[5])
William Thomas was born at Emu Flat, Amherst, Colony of Victoria (1860[6] - 1919[7])
Hannah (Boyer) Soper migrated from Colony of Victoria to New Zealand.
The family emigrated to Southland from Melbourne on the French barque St Clare in the spring of 1862. W. D. was a pioneer of the goldfields at the Nokomai River, a tributary of the Mataura River in Southland. They had thirteen more children.
In 1894 she was a housekeeper living with her husband, a farmer, at Garston, both being on the Wallace Electoral Roll[34].
W. D. died on 7 November 1903[35]. She was a widow living at Atholl in 1914, being registered on the Wakatipu Electoral Roll[36].
Hannah died aged 75 years on 4 July 1918[37] at the home of her daughter, Mary Thompson, Waianiwa, Southland[38]. At the time of her death it was claimed that she had 82 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. She was buried with her husband, William, at Garston Cemetery, Southland, New Zealand, 12 Block II[39]. The inscription reads:
Sacred to the memory of Our dear father William Davis Soper
Who died on 7th November 1903 Aged 72 years.
Also of his wife Hannah Taylor Soper
Who died 4th July 1918 In her 75th year.
"In my father's house are many mansions
I go to prepare a place for you".

It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Hannah by comparing test results with other carriers of her mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known mtDNA test-takers in her direct maternal line.

This was an interesting read - Hannah's Brother, Henry Boyer, is my 3xggrandfather, Hannah Soper and a Robert Davies (?) were the witness signatures on his marriage certificate that solves a bit of a puzzle (though I am still struggling to find anything about his wife Jane Glass anywhere) thanks for the info :)
