Date - 21 November 1952
Arthur Patrick Boylan -The burial of the late Arthur Patrick Boylan, who passed away on October 20 last, took place in the Karrakatta cemetery in the presence of a very large gathering of mourners from all parts of the State, including his widow, daughter (Mrs. R. Farr), and brothers, Frank, Jack and Walter; The pall bearers were Messrs. J. Dowsett, R; Warriek, W. Parry (Snr.), J. Brennan, E. Needham, M.L. A., S. Langer, M. Cranley W. Malone, J. Moore and H. Briggs (Snr.) The officiating priest was Father M. Giles and arrangements were in the hands of Bowra & O'Dea, in conjunction with A, Dawson & Sons, of Narro- gin. The deceased was born in Balmain (Sydney) and was the eldest of four boys' and one girl. He came to this State at an early age and was educated at Christian Brothers College, Fremantle. Subsequently he went to Kalgoorlie where his father conducted the Launceston Hotel for many years. Later he engaged in hotel keeping on his own account, having secured the license of the Albion Hotel at Boulder. During his association with Boulder he became exceedingly popular because of his interest in sport, partic- ularly foot-running, boxing and football. After a successful career on the Goldfields he decided to go to Perth and following his marriage to Miss Elsie O'Neill he took control of the Great Boulder Hotel which was demolished later on to be re- erected and then known as "The George." It was here that the deceased became widely known throughout the State over the ensuing years, due to the efficient manner in which he and his wife catered for an ever growing clientele. It was during the period of his association with the George Hotel that he widened the circle of his friends by acting as referee of practically ever important boxing contest as well as taking keen interest in all other forms of sport which, benefitted as the result of his influence and patronage. With his wife and daughter (then 12 years old) he came to Narrogin in 1937, having secured the license of the Duke of York Hotel, which he held until 1951. Over the intervening years he enhanced the very fav- ourable reputation which he had gained in Perth as the result of his forthright char- acter and honourable dealing and keen regret was ex- pressed, not only here, but throughout the State when his death at the Narrogin Hospital took place on the date already stated. This was accompanied by every evidence of respect and sympathy for the bereaved wife and daughter as indicated by the letters, telegrams and wreaths received by them on the occasion. The former are too voluminous to record here but we publish here under the latter tributes to the memory of a very fine gentleman. — Loving Wife; Margaret and Isobel; Norah and Bob; Kath; Bill McGovern and family; Jack and Mary Wade (Perth) ; Don and Netta Secree (Perth) ; Lou & Charlie Anderson (Perth); Norman, Lil and Ron Cul- leton Jack and Doris Brown and family; Bernie O'Keefe (Perth) ; E.
