Margaret was born about 1832 in Londonderry, Ireland. Margaret Boyle married Patrick Doherty on 3 May 1855 in St Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, Glasgow, Scotland. In the 1861 Census they are recorded as being at Port Dundas, Glasgow where Patrick was a bottle packer. The area is described as "A district comprising of a number of streets, lanes, etc. It is situated on both sides of the canal, on the South side it is bounded by Dobbies Loan, on the East by Charlotte Street as far as the Canal thence that district of buildings on the North side of the Canal from Dundas Hill distillery as far East as that distillery east of Glasgow Glass Works."
