Willard Sterling Boyle was born on August 19, 1924 in Amherst, Nova Scotia.
Willard was awarded the Nobel prize in Physics in 2009 "for the invention of an imaging semiconductor circuit - the CCD sensor" (with George E. Smith).
He died on 7 May 2011 in Truro, Nova Scotia, Canada.
