Connell, a farm labourer, arrived in Australia from Ireland when he was just 17 years old. He emigrated with his brother, Charles (19) and sister Ellen (21). Their ship, the Nile, arrived at Sydney on 16th May 1861.

His father, step-mother, and three younger siblings arrived three years later on the ship, Montrose, in March 1864.

Connell Boyle was a Constable in the Armed Constabulary when his party was ambushed by Maori while they were foraging in a peach grove upstream from Wanganui. He was killed in action.[1]

He had recently lived in Greymouth, NZ.
