Biography

There were two sets of twins among the children of Matthew and Catherine Boyle. Sylvester James was a twin of Sylvia. Until Sylvia's death in 1927 the twins' names would appear, separately or together, in the records as Sylvester and Sylvia. After 1927 and before 1940 Sylvester James appears in the records with the single name James. James was among the three youngest sons of Matthew and Catherine. Those three sons together with their parents made up a household on Pittsburgh's North Side in 1930.[1] Within a few years that household separated, with James moving east to Greensburg, Westmoreland County, by April 1935.[2] When his mother died in August 1936, James was still residing in Greensburg. Based on the supplemental question for his wife in the 1940 census, James married about 1937. By 1940 the family (Sylvester J., 32, Nancy, 20, Margaret, 1 month) was living on the east side of Brownsville, along the original National Road, close to its intersection with Route 166.[2] When his father died in January 1941, viewing of the body was held at the Sylvester Boyle residence on National Pike East.[3]

By the late 1950's the family was associated with West Palm Beach, Florida.
