Biography

Cavendish Charles Boyle was born on 29 May 1849 to Cavendish Spencer Boyle and Rose Susan Alexander of Enmore Lodge, Parish of St. Michael, Barbados, being christened on 16 Aug 1849.[1]

Sir Charles Cavendish Boyle KCMG AMInstCE (29 May 1849 – 17 September 1916) was a British civil servant, magistrate, and colonial administrator who served as Colonial Governor of Newfoundland, Mauritius and British Guiana. He wrote the lyrics for the anthem of the Dominion and later Province of Newfoundland, "Ode to Newfoundland".

1897 Jun 22: Cavendish Boyle, Esq., C.M.G., Government Secretary of the Colony of British Guiana appointed to be an Ordinary Member of the Second Class, or Knights Commander of the Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George by Queen Victoria.[9]

1901 Feb 28: Sir Cavendish Boyle, K.C.M.G. (Government Secretary of British Guiana and lately administering the Government of that Colony in the absence of the Governor), appointed to be Governor and Commander-in-Chief of the Island of Newfoundland and its Dependencies by King Edward VII.[10]

1904 Apr 26: Sir Cavendish Boyle, K.C.M.G. (Governor of Newfoundland) appointed to be Governor and Commander-in Chief of the Colony of Mauritius and its Dependencies by King Edward VII.[11]
