Elisabeth was born in 1243, the daughter of Henry II, Duke of Brabant, and his second wife, Sophie of Thuringia.
Unsuccessful negotiations in 1247 to marry a daughter of Henry II to Edward (later Edward I), eldest son of Henry III, King of England, probably related to Elisabeth. She did marry on 13 July 1254 at Braunschweig, while still a child, Albrecht I, Herzog von Braunschweig (Duke of Brunswick), though the marriage wasn't consummated until 1258.
Elisabeth died childless either on 17 April or 9 October 1261 and was buried at Braunschweig.
