Henri II de Brabant succeeded his father in 1235 as Duke of Brabant. After the death in Feb 1247 of Heinrich Raspe anti-King of Germany, Landgraf of Thuringia, Duke Henri II proposed his nephew Willem II Count of Holland as successor after declining the position himself. The Annales Parchenses record the death in 1247/8 of "Heinricus II dux" aged 40.
HENRI II, Duke of Lorraine and Brabant, son and heir, born 1207, died 1 Feb. 1247/8. He married (1st) 22 August, probably 1215 MARIA VON HOHENSTAUFEN, born about 1201, daughter of Philip, King of Germany, Duke of Swabia, by Eirene, daughter of Isaac Angelus, Emperor of the East. His wife, Maria, died 1235. He married (2nd) SOPHIE OF THURINGEN, daughter of Ludwig IV, Landgrave of Thuringia, by Elisabeth, daughter of Andras II, King of Hungary. They had one son, Henri (Landgrave of Hessen) and one daughter, Elizabeth (wife of Albrecht I, Duke of Braunschweig). HENRI II, Duke of Lorraine and Brabant, died 1 Feb. 1247/8. He left a will dated 22 Jan. 1248.
