Lanmore is a small townland in Killesher parish; south of Marble Arch Road, close to Florence Court.
The townland of Lanmore appears to have Bracken connections before the birth of Edward Bracken about 1790. The 1788 Poll Poll of Electors : Fermanagh lists Robert Bracken at Blunick, with a freehold in Lamore.
There is an indenture dated 22nd June 1809 between Richard Bracken of ‘Lawmore’ of one part and Hugh Bracken of Toam on the other. [1]
The 1828 Tithe Book registers list Edward Brackin at Lanmore; [2] - an Edward Brackin is also listed for Sillisgrove (Sallysgrove). [3]
An indenture dated 18th September 1840 is particularly interesting. It is between Edward Bracken and John Bracken both of Toam, County Cavan, farmers, and Hugh Bracken of Toam of County Cavan, merchant. In this case, Edward and John are selling ‘a small portion of the lands of Toam situate in what is called the paddock’. The deed was witnessed by James Bracken and Hugh Copeland. This confirmed that there was definitely an Edward ‘of Toam’ at some stage. More than likely a son of John Softly as shown in the Willis account and the Toam tree. This, and similar family transactions appear to have been witnessed by family members. [4]
The death on the 29th November 1855 of 'Edward Bracken of Lamore' aged 65 years is recorded in the parish records for Killesher. [5]
We have not found a birth record; however, Edward Bracken is thought to be a son of John Bracken of Toam and an unknown daughter of George Willis of Aghatirourke.
The family Narrative put together by James Armstrong Willis and William Willis and Moneen in 1890 recorded that Edward Bracken, Eddy of Lanmore married his cousin Anne Willis, a daughter of his uncle, Hugh Willis of Gortgullenan.
Remembered as Neddy of Lanmore, Edward Bracken is listed among the seven sons of John Bracken and George Willis' daughter by George Anthony Armstrong Willis in his History of the Family of Willis, County Fermanagh. [6]
Bill Coffey recorded that 'John Bracken of Tome' had eight sons, of which he could only account for Edward Bracken of Lanmore 1790-1855 [7] [8]
Note that there is a certain John Bracken, perhaps a grandson, recorded as the only tenant of Lanmore c. 1862, by Griffith's Valuations. [9]
