Sarah was born in 1818 in Newton, Massachusetts. She was the child of Anna Hancock of Roxbury, Massachusetts and William Brackett of Needham, Massachusetts, and the stepmother of Civil War soldier Edward Lewis Stevens who served and died with the famous 54th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry.
She passed away in 1891 and is buried at Mount Auburn Cemetery in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
