Research notes

William James Bradbury died at Donald in Victoria, the result of a railway accident,13th January 1905. He was an engine driver, 27 years in the service, his travel route between Maryborough and Donald. His remains are interred at Maryborough Cemetery. He was 46 years of age, married with several children.

Vic Death Reg 1376/1905 records his father as William John Bradbury and mother as Elizabeth Heens.

This is our William based on the following:

1. His mother was named Elizabeth Mary Evans/Hunns on several records. The surname of 'Heens' could be yet another interpretation.

2. There are no other 'Heens' in bdm Victoria.

3. Victorian Govt Gazette 1902 record William Bradbury's birth date as 27.5.1859 and estimated employment starting date as 27.1.1879. His birth date is close to the Queens Asylum Record date of 17.7.1859. His starting date is just after his 'apprenticeship' possibly finished.

4. Vic Birth records for the Children of William and Sarah Ann Carlyon record their father as both William John and William James.

5. Coincidence that his sister Mary Ann Elizabeth Chaffey also lived in Maryborough and her husband Henry James Chaffey also worked for the Railway from 1874.

6. Memorial notice placed in The Age Newspaper 13th January 1908: BRADBURY - In sad and loving remembrance of our dear brother who was accidentally killed at Donald on 12th Jan 1905. Gone but not forgotten. Inserted by his loving sister and brother in law M & H Chaffey.

7. Age at death matches birth date.
