3 KILLED AT LEVEL CROSSING

  • PERTH, Sunday. - Both parents and one son in a family party of five were fatally injured on Saturday night when a train smashed into their car on the Napier Street level crossing at Cottesloe, about eight miles from Perth. Another son and his sister were critically in jured.

Those killed were William Wood Weston, who was driving the car, his wife, Lyn Weston, and their 13-year-old son, Lindsay George Weston, all of Saunders Street, North Beach. Injured were Ross William Weston (16).and Suzanne (5). Ross was admitted to Fremantle Hospital suffering from concussion, a fractured pelvis, lacerations and shock. Suzanne was taken to Princess Margaret Children's Hospital with a fractured jaw, facial injuries and shock. The condition of both tonight was reported to be satisfactory. The car was struck by a passenger train bound for Fremantle about 7.30 p.m. It was thrown into the air and then dragged about 20 yards before being thrown clear. The scene of the accident is notorious for the number of smashes and fatalities that have occurred there. The crossing lacks warning flash lights and gates.
