She passed away at the age of 78 on March 1, 2014 ^[2] at Blu-Fountain Manor in Godfrey, Madison County, Illinois. She was buried in Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens in Bethalto, Madison County, Illinois. ^[2]

Virginia married Richard Leroy "Dick" Downer on December 10, 1955 in Hartford, Madison County, Illinois. Their children include:
