Biography

Ralph Braden was born in Ohio.
Ralph Arehart Braden was born on February 11, 1881, at Braden Road, Wayne Township, Fayette County, Ohio, United States (where his family had farmed since 1849), the youngest child of Thomas E. Braden and his wife Nancy Arehart.[1]
Ralph Braden has Irish ancestors.
Ralph's grandfather, William Braden, born in Ireland and emigrating in 1826 to try a new life in a new land, had settled in Ross County, Ohio, where he set up a hotel business with an unnamed brother at Chillicothe. He was there (at Chillicothe) for some 30 years, after which he moved to Good Hope, Wayne Township, Fayette County, where he set up a gardening business, at which he worked from 1849 until 1870. The last years of his life were spent in the home of his son, Thomas (Ralph's father) where he died in 1881 "at a ripe old age". Ralph's great grandfather had been a landholder in Ireland, living to the age of 103 years.

On 1900, Ralph (19), a farm laborer, was living with his family in Wayne Township. Home at the time were his father: Thomas (69), farmer on own account; his mother: Nancy (59); his sister: Edith (28), and Edith's husband Harve Smally (27), also a farm laborer; and a cousin: Ohio-born Kenneth Mckinley (17), at school.[2]

He married Eva Carman on February 20, 1906, in Fayette County, J C Arbuckle, Minister, officiated.[3]

On April 28, 1910, Ralph (29), a farmer on his own account, was living on Washington Pike, Wayne Township, with his family. Home at the time were his wife: Eva (30) ; and their son: 9-month-old Thomas Carman Braden.[4]

Ralph was a farmer in Fayette County, Ohio.

On January 13, 1920, Ralph (38), farming his own farm, employing laborers, was living with his family on Good Hope Pike, Wayne Township. Also at home were his wife, Eva (40); and their children: 10-year-old Thomas; and 7-year-old Mary Jane.[5]

On April 18, 1930, Ralph (39), owner of his own farm, employing laborers, was living with his family on McCoy Road, Wayne Township. Home with him were his wife: Eva (40); and their daughter: Mary Jane (17).[6]

On April 23, 1940, Ralph (59), owner of his own farm, employing laborers, was living on Good Hope Pike, Wayne Township. Also at home was his wife: Eva (60).[7]

On April 19, 1950, Ralph (69), owner of his own farm, employing laborers, without having moved, was living on the farm on Camp Grove Road, Wayne Township. Also at home was his wife: Eva (70).[8]

Ralph Arehart Braden passed away on January 19, 1953, after a brief illness, in the house in which he had been born, on Braden Road, Wayne Township, Fayette County, Ohio, United States, aged 71 years, and was interred on the 22nd in the Good Hope Cemetery, Good Hope, Wayne Township, where others of his family also lie.[9]
