PEEBLES, Era D.

Passed away Tuesday, September 30, 2003. Era was born August 14, 1926 in Town Creek, Alabama, the daughter of Houston and Beulah (Bunnell) Bradford. She worked as a charge nurse at Verdries and Pines nursing homes for many years, and then owned and operated an adult foster care home with her husband for 20 years. Era was a member of the Portage Church of Christ. On October 28, 1941, she was united in marriage to Robert W. Peebles, who preceded her in death on December 21, 1995. She was also preceded in death by a son, Franklin Peebles; a grandson, Robbie Stratton; a daughter-in-law Jean Peebles; and by brothers and sisters, Grady Bradford, Etoil Pelt, Faye Bradford, Lula Rutherford, Flora Smith and Myrtle Thrasher. Surviving are her children, Gurnia Peebles of Portage, Jimmy (Kathy) Peebles of Climax, Milton (Linda) Peebles of DeWitt, AR, Rodger (Betty) Peebles of Kalamazoo, Diane (Ronald) Stratton of Plainwell, Sharolett (David) Ashby of Kalamazoo, Sheila (J.L.) Simpson and Mark Peebles, all of Kalamazoo; a daughter-in-law, Carlene Peebles of Portage; 20 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Gurnia Bradford, Braxton Bradford, Lillian and her twin sister, Vera Rose all of Alabama; many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will e held 10:00am Friday at the Langeland Family funeral homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S Burdick sSt. with Minister Jay Tyler officiating. Interment will follow in Ft Custer National Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Memorial Chapel on Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8pm. Memorials in Era's memory may be directed to the Borgess VNA Hospice Program or Senior Services. www.langelands.com [1]
