Wallace was born in 1851. He was a slave on the Walnut Hill Plantation in Leon County, Florida. His enslaver was Thomas Anderson Bradford, founder of the planation, which was established about 1832. He most likely was born on the plantation. His first name and date of birth were recorded in the plantation journal by Thomas' daughter, Sallie Bradford. It appears from the family grouping in the journal that he was the son of Rozella.[2]
