On the 1891 census, George is living at 37 Athol St, Whickham, with the Mason family.[2] On the 1901 census, George is living with his maternal aunt, Sarah Manners, and her family at 3 Armstrong Buildings, Whickham.[3]
On the 1921 census, George is living with his cousin, Alfred Wood Mason, and his maternal aunt, Sarah Manners. Alfred is a solicitor's clerk and George is a general labourer. The record also states George was adopted into the family.[4] On the 1939 Register, George is living in Whickham, Durham, with his adopted sister, Mabel, and his adopted brother, Alfred, both of whom are widowed. George is a watchman and general labourer. He is using the Mason surname.[5]
