Note: Richard Bradley's grandfather arrived in Virginia from England around 1636 and most records recorded their surname as Badley and Richard's family is no exception. However, Richard's youngest son William was the only line that continued to use the surname Badley as he moved out west to Ohio. Every other sibling started to drop the last name Bradley through the next several generations although some early records interchange Badley with Bradley.
"The eldest son of Henry Bradley, Richard Bradley, remained a planter in Dorchester County until his death in 1749 in Great Choptank Parish. Richard had inherited "Bradley's Desire" from his father, which Richard had renamed "Badley's Design."[1][2]
At the time Richard's will was signed on December 28, 1749, there were ten living children, all of whom Richard named in his will.[3]
