Lucius' father, Chester was a paper manufacturer in Dansville, NY, the family business. His mother was Maria Elizabeth Morrison. Lucius was probably named after his father's brother Lucius. He also learned the paper business. He married Louisa and they had children. Lucius served in the Civil War on the Union side. He was discharged after receiving a gunshot wound in the Battle of Gettysburg.
