Clair was born in Virginia in 1874.[1] By 1900, he had married Inez Olmstead and they had a four-year-old daughter named Clareice.[2] In 1910, they had the fourteen year old girl, but they also had two more children, 3 and 1 year old.[3] They stayed in New York.[4][5][6]He passed away in 1959 and was buried in the Tioga Cemetery, Oswego, New York.[7]
