Biography

Ada (Bradley) Burns was born in Appalachia, in Alabama.

Ada Viola Bradley was born on May 5, 1876 in Randolph County, Alabama, United States, daughter of William Tillery Bradley (1847–1929) and Sefronia Caroline Bowen (1854–1940).

Early Life

In 1880, Ada (4) was with her parents William T. (31, a Farmer) and Sophrona C. (26) in Wedowee, Randolph County; her sister, Mary E. (2); grandmother Mary E. Bowen (57), and Joseph Fincher (20, Farm Laborer). ^[1]

Marriage

Ada married Mitchell Gay Burns (24), about 1896 in Wedowee, Randolph County; he was the son of Edward Samuel Burns and Sophie Syrenthia (Gay) Burns).

In 1900, Ada and Mitchell lived in Election Precinct 6 Wedowee, Randolph with their two daughters Ethel L (3), and Gladys M (1). ^[2]

In 1910, Ada (34) and Mitchell (38, a Medicine Salesman) had moved to Carrollton, Carroll County, Georgia. Their children were Ethel (12), Merlis (11), Aubrey (9), Minnie Bell (7), and Nellie (5). Ada reported giving birth to seven children, five of whom were still living.^[3]

In 1920, Ada and Mitchel lived in Wedowee with their children, Ethel (22), Gladys (20), Aubry (19), Minnie Bell (16), Willie B (14), Syrettia (7), and Mitchel G Burns, Jr (3 years 6 months). Mitchell was a sawmill operator, daughter Ethel was a public school teacher, and son Aubrey was a Auto Repairer. ^[4]

In 1930, Ada and Mitchell owned their home in Wedowee; living with them were their children Gladys (31), Willie (24), Rethia (17), and Gay (13). Mitchell was again a Medicine Salesman and daughter Willie a school teacher. ^[5]

In 1940, Ada (64) and "M G" Burns (67) lived in Wedowee, Randolph with their daughter, Gladys (41, Office Clerk). ^[6]

In 1950, Ada (74) and M G (78) lived in Election Precinct 6, Wedowee. ^[7]

Death / Burial

Ada died on October 19, 1955 in Wedowee, Randolph County, aged 79. ^[8] She was buried in Wedowee Masonic Cemetery, Wedowee, Randolph County, Alabama.^[9]
