"Luther Daniels Bradley was a cartoonist for the Chicago Daily News. He wrote and illustrated children's books, and earlier in his career he was a cartoonist for the Australian paper, The Melbourne Punch. Born in New Haven, CT to Francis Bradley & Sarah Beaman Ruggles, he was named after a relative, Luther Daniels, who raised his orphaned mother. He was the great-grandson of Col. Philip Burr Bradley, who received from George Washington himself a commission as Marshal of the State of CT. The Bradleys moved to Evanston, IL in 1857 when Luther was about 4 years old. He married Agnes Floyd Smith on Oct. 31, 1901 at St. Luke's Church in Chicago. They had four children: Francis, John Freeman, Sarah Elizabeth, and Margaret Eleanor."
