Regan Bradshaw died Sunday, October 10,1998. Reagan was born May 4, 1943, in Texarkana, Texas, to Evalyn and Barney A. Bradshaw. He grew up in Lufkin “in an all Lufkin family.” He built his first darkroom in the family garage in seventh grade and was photographer for the high school annual. He graduated from Lufkin High School in 1961. In the summer of 1963, he was a cub reporter for the Lufkin News, carrying his camera, for they had no staff photographers. He was a UT Plan II graduate in 1965, and began graduate school in government, but opted instead for the Germain School of Photography in New York. Reagan was an industrial photographer for Tracor in 1967-68 and a photographer and photo editor for Texas Parks and Wildlife magazine from 1968-71. He had been an independent commercial photographer since then with many regional and national clients. He was an advocate for other photographers as the founding president of the Austin/San Antonio chapter of the American Society of Media Photographers in 1985. He had served on the Board of Directors of the National A.S.M.P. since 1987, holding offices culminating with the presidency from 1995-97. He was most noted for his efforts in copyright protection, education, and for his authorship of the A.S.M.P. code of ethics. He was the authority on business knowledge for Central Texas photographers. Reagan photographed in depth the natural world of Texas and was well known for his and Griffin Smith Jr.’s 1983 book, “Forgotten Texas.”. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Shepperd Bradshaw; mother, Evalyn Bradshaw; sister, Emily Kirkman; brother,Stephen Bradshaw; children, Katy Bradshaw, Patrick Bradshaw, Joaquin Morin, Silke Morin and her husband, Michael Martin; and grandchildren, Jasper Morin Martin and Calvin Morin Martin; and a large family of friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Barney Bradshaw, in 1966. Reagan was a photographer, pilot, guitarist, canoeist, kayaker, skier, scuba diver, husband, father, and grandfather. He was a quiet, but large presence in many of our lives, and will be remembered always.
