[Research notes: Gideon Wing's birth on 11 May 1744, as the son of William and Mary (Allen) Wing, is recorded at Rochester, Mass. His marriage on 25 Feb. 1767 to Abigail Ripley of Duxbury, Mass., is recorded at Duxbury.
2 Abigail, b. at Duxbury, 2 Oct. 1749, was a daughter of Abner and Abigail (Robbins) Ripley.
3 Gideon and Abigail apparently lived first in Duxbury, as the births of their first two children, William and Allen (the dates agreeing with those in the Bible record above) are recorded in Duxbury.
4 The births of the next two children are not recorded in Duxbury and have not been independently corroborated; however,
the birth of the last child, Hannah, in 1. Vital Records of Rochester, Massachusetts, to the Year 1850, 2 vols. (Boston: New England Historic Genealogical Society, 1914), 1:310; his parents' marriage intentions on 2 Oct. 1736 re¬corded in ibid., 2:328. 2. Vital Records of Duxbury, Massachusetts, to the Year 1850 (Boston: New England Historic Genealogical Society, 1911), hereafter Duxbury VRs, p. 334. 3. Duxbury VRs, p. 133; her parents' marriage on 14 March 1746 recorded in ibid., p. 294. 4. Duxbury VRs, p. 197.
1783, is recorded in the records of Vassalborough, Maine, the date also agreeing with the Bible record
5 Gideon was a Revolutionary War soldier and pensioner.
6 According to a Wing genealogy, after the close of the Revolutionary War, Gideon settled first in Hallowell and moved to Vassalborough in 1782, where he was among the original members of the First Baptist Church of Vassalborough. He d. 27 Feb 1821, age 76 years 9 months 16 days, and his wife Abigail d. 2 July 1837, age 87 years 9 months 19 days?
Gideon 's eldest son, William, m. (int.) New Bedford, Mass., 21 Aug. 1807, Mercy Chase, both of New Bedford.8 He and Mercy moved to Albion, Maine, where several children are recorded, including a son named Joseph Chase Wing.9 Marriages for the other children are recorded in Vassalborough:1.
Stephen and Hannah Bragg had a daughter, Harriet, b. Albion, 10 Aug. 1809.11
The deaths of Stephen Bragg, Hannah (Wing) Bragg, and their son Stephen Bragg Jr. are also recorded in the Albion records, the dates agreeing with those in the Bible..'
2 Harriet Bragg and David Lancaster filed marriage intentions at Albion on 30 May 1829.
3 The actual marriage is not recorded in Albion, but is given in the Bible record as 20 June 1829. David and Harriet had ten children whose births are recorded in Albion.
4 In the 1850 census, the David Lancaster family was enumerated in Albion two households away from Stephen and Hannah Bragg and three households away from the family of Stephen Bragg Jr.
5 It would appear the Gideon Wing Bible was passed to his daughter Hannah (Wing) Bragg and then to her daughter Harriet (Bragg) Lancaster.
