Notice

Windsor and Richmond Gazette (NSW : 1888 - 1965), Friday 5 January 1934, page 10. [1] OBITUARY. MR. WILLIAM BRAGG. It is with regret that we have to chronicle the death of Mr. William Bragg, who passed away peacefully at his residence, Lower Wilberforce, on December 21, at the ripe age of 79 years. Although not actually a native of the Hawkesbury, the deceased was brought by his parents, the late William and Marjorie Bragg, when only six months old to the farm on which he died. As a young man, the late Mr. Bragg secured a position in Sydney and spent most of his life in the districts of Parramatta, Pennant Hills, Dural and Maroota. In his early life he was a member of the Naval Brigade and a prominent Oddfellow for many years. Nearly 58 years ago the subject of this notice married Miss Agnes Allen; of Pennant Hills, who, with five sons and two daughters, survive. Three sons — Edmund, Ronald and Allan — served in the Great War, and one (Edmund) was killed in action on Gallipoli. The other members of the family are Ellen (Mrs. Franks), William, Hector, Arthur and Cassie (Mrs. Harris). Mr. Henry Bragg, of Wilberforce, is a brother, and in addition to the sons and daughters there are eleven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Of a quiet, unassuming disposition, the late Mr. Bragg made many friends wherever he went, and always did what he could to advance the district in which he happened to reside. He was for many years secretary of the Pennant Hills Progress Association, and also did much useful work in the interests of the Maroota district, being President of the Maroota branch of the Fruitgrowers' Association and Agricultural Bureau and a trustee of the Maroota Hall until he left that district eight years ago. Since then he had lived quietly at Lower Wilberforce, enjoying fairly good health and retaining a keen and active mind until the end. The funeral took place on December 23, the remains being laid to rest in the Church of England cemetery, Wilberforce, where the deceased's father and mother also rest. Rev. Stanley Howard, M.A., conducted the last sad rites, and Mr. Chandler was the undertaker.
