Monique Catherine Joséphine Braille, daughter of Simon René Braille, harness maker, and Monique Baron, was born on 5 September 1793 in Coupvray. The registration witnesses, probably her godparents, were Pierre Joseph Duval, locksmith, and Marie Catherine Braille, wife of François Triolet, mason^[1]. Her preferred name was Joséphine, from letters written by her brother^[2].

Monique Catherine Joséphine Braille married Jean François Carron, wine grower, on 3 June 1813 in Coupvray^[3].
