Jane was born in 1841 ^[1] and christened on 3 October 1841 in Seavington St Michael, Somerset, England, United Kingdom. ^[2]

In the 1851 Census, Jane (aged 9) was at home in Seavington St Michael, Somerset, England ^[3] with her parents David and Mary, and her older sisters Thena (20) and Levina (16).

In the September quarter 1860, Jane Brake married Thomas Hutchings in Seavington St Michael, Somerset, England. ^[4]

In the 1861 Census, Jane and Thomas were at home in Seavington St Michael, Somerset, England with their baby son David Hutchings. ^[5]

The following year another son was born, and they named him George.

In 1870, Jane and her family migrated to America and in the 1870 Census, the family was living in Buffalo, Erie, New York, United States. ^[6] Note that the surname sometimes appeared as Hutchins rather than Hutchings.

In the 1875 Census, the family was still living in Buffalo, Erie, New York, United States. ^[7]
