Mattie is the daughter of J.C. Branch and Florence Hayes.
She married Samuel Lewis on 15 Dec 1931 in Shelby, TN.[1] Mattie was divorced from Sam in 1940[2].
In 1940, there were too many single "Mattie Lewis" to ID the right one to continue the paper trail after her divorce. There was 1) one found in Indianapolis, IN, and 2) another found in St. Louis. MO, both stating her marital status as "widowed" which would probably carry less sigma than being divorced at that time period. Both were housekeepers/maids.
