Amy was born before 1863, based on the probated will of her enslaver, John Branch.
Amy was a slave of John Branch (1782-1863), who was a Governor of North Carolina from 1817 to 1820, and the Governor of Florida Territory from 1844 t0 1845. On 25 Feb 1863, Branch's estate was probated in Leon County, Florida.[1] Amy was one of the slaves Branch's estate gave to his granddaughter, Susan Branch (Bradford) Eppes (1846-1942). Susan received them on 10 Mar 1863. It is not yet determined if Amy was enslaved on Branch's Live Oak Plantation in Leon County, Florida, or on his Walnut Hill property. Amy's age was not given in the will. She may also have been enslaved during Branch's time in North Carolina.
