Biography
Starling was born in 1857. He was the son of William Brand and Elizabeth Brand. He was raised by his step-mother, Emily Smith Brand. Sometime after his first wife died, Alex moved with five children to Alabama, and later moved to Texas where his half-sister lived.
Sometime between 1900 and 1910, Alex began to call himself Samuel Alex Brand, or S A Brand.
He passed away about 1941 in Texas.
