Commodore was raised in the Reformed Church but converted to the United Brethren as an adult and became a minister.[1]

While his gravestone gives a birth year of 1849[2], his 1897 passport application gives his birthdate as 25 December 1848.[3]

His papers are archived at the United Methodist Archives and History Center, General Commission on Archives and History, Madison, New Jersey.
