Biography

"Edward Joseph Brann came to Abernethy, Saskatchewan in 1908 after serving as Queen's Corporal in South Africa during the Boer War. He was referred to as Joe. Joe married Bertha Dohms at the home of Mr. & Mrs. Kenneth Foster in 1910. Bertha , with her family immigrated to Canada from Lemberg, Russia. Prior to her marriage she had worked for Mr. & Mrs. William Foster Sr. During the following year, they homesteaded at Saskatchewan Landing, north of Swift Current. Hail and drought sent them back to Abernethy to farm the Hartle farm, along with Joe's brother Sydney. Syd Brann later left Canada to settle in Australia. In 1919, Joe and Bertha settled in Abernethy, in a small house north of the United Church. In this house, Joe & Bertha raised 10 children and all their children received their education at the Abernethy school.

Winter saw them skating, curling and playing hockey. The winter carnival was a highlight of the year. Although money was scarce, all the family took part, making costumes out of anything that cane to hand. One example was a knight in full armour made by son Edward, out of tin cans. It won a prize.

Joe worked as a carpenter for Mr. Pushelberg until he took over the town telephone office in 1922 and ran it until 1947. He was a good photographer and developed films as a sideline. Joe passed away in 1949 and Bertha in 1957. They both rest in the Abernethy Cemetery." Short biography written by May Robinson Brann - published in the book "Dance on the Bridge" - A History of Abernethy and Area published 1983.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Joseph by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Joseph:

Brann-686 and Brann-680 appear to represent the same person because: same date of birth, and death. Same death location.

Brann-680 and Brann-7 are not ready to be merged because: This is a match. However one profile is private. It is up to the profile manager to proceed if waned. Otherwise this match should remain marked as Unmerged. See comments on the Brann-680 profile about the children on Edward and Bertha.

Edward Brann is duplicated. One profile is private. The family of Edward and Bertha already exists on Wikitree. These are marked private.

I have moved the proposed merge of the Edwards to unmerged. Adding the family of Edward and Bertha will cause duplicates. However some of them can be ascertained from the census records on on this profile if proof is needed for research purposes.
