Age 91 of Chisago City Passed Away Dec. 22, 2014
Born Feb. 12, 1923 to Rose & Peter Braun in Elrosa, MN. Grew up in Melrose, MN, graduated high school in 1940. Served proudly in 1942 on the USS Pennsylvania - BB 38, "shootingest" battleship in South Pacific for 4 years. Awarded WWII Victory Medal, America Area Medal, Good Conduct, Asiatic Pacific Area with 6 combat stars, Philippine Liberation Combat Medal with 2 stars, and the Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon. Later served on the USS Samuel B. Robert - DD 828 and the William T. Powell - DE 213 in the Atlantic Ocean after WWII. Graduated from the U of M School of Pharmacy in 1952, afterward employed by Walgreen Drug for 42 years and manager of Walgreen stores in Mpls. For 25 years. Ray was an eccentric collector of antiques, fishing lures, drug store items, cribbage boards, barometers, Abe Lincoln books & misc., and American history books. He was also an auction buff and loved to travel.
Preceded in death by loving first wife Genevieve; both parents; son, John; 5 brothers; 3 sisters. Survived by second wife, Luella; sons, Phil, Roger, Mark; daughter, Pamela Foshay; 3 brothers; 1 sister; 11 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren.
Memorial Mass 11 AM Sat. Jan. 10 at Roberts Family Funeral Home, 555 SW Centennial Dr., Forest Lake, with a gathering of family and friends beginning at 10 AM. Military Honors to follow. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to U of M Anatomy Bequest Program.[1]
