Biography

Abraham Braun (later Brown) was born 08 Mar 1743 in Lancaster County, Pa., baptized in Muddy Creek Lutheran and Reformed Congregation in that County, 10 Apr 1743. [1] He was the son of Johann Stephan Christian Braun and Maria Eva Hamen Braun of Ruschberg, West Germany.

Migrated to Rowan County, NC in the 1750's.
Married Jan 27, 1769 [2] to Mary Hardmon, daughter of Herman Hardmon.

He is the title person in “The Ancestors and Descendants of Abraham (Braun) Brown the Miller; The Ancestors and Descendants of Jacob (Braun) Brown the Wagonmaker” [3]

Abraham was to receive seven and a half Spanish milled dollars at 6 percent interest until paid, for his military services , dated 20 Nov 1780.[4]

In 1793 he obtained a land grant of 295 acres from the State for a price of approximately 150 shillings . On this property he built his home as well as a gristmill. It is believed that he built the mill long before he purchased the property.

Buried May 27, 1804 by Reverend Carl Gottleib Storch at Dutch Pine Ch Cem (now Union Lutheran Ch), Rowan County, NC.[5]
