Sophie Braunschweig was a member of the aristocracy in Europe.

Biography

Sophie was born about 1358, the daughter of Magnus II 'Torquatus', Duke of Brunswick and Luneburg, and his wife, Katharina von Anhalt.[1]

She married 8 April 1373, Erich IV, Herzog von Sachsen-Lauenburg, son of Erich II, Herzog von Sachsen in Ratzeburg and Lauenburg, and Agnes von Holstein.[2]

They had issue, 6 sons and 3 daughters;[2]

  1. Erich V, succeeded his father in Lauenburg and Ratzeburg;
  2. Johann IV, mentioned 1403/1404, died in Battle in April 1416;
  3. Albrecht, entered the church, was a Canon (Domherr) in 1406, Canon in Koln, and appointed Domscholasticus and Priest in St Mauritz, Munster in 1414, died in battle near Grohnde 20 March 1421;
  4. Magnus, also entered the church, was Bishop of Cammin 1410, and Bishop of Hildesheim 1424, died 21 September 1452;
  5. Bernhard II, succeeded his brother Erich V in Lauenburg and Ratzeburg 1435;
  6. Otto, died before 1431;
  7. Agnes, married before 23 March 1399, Albrecht, Count of Holstein-Schauenburg, (died 28 September 1403), and died before 1415;
  8. Katharina, married twice, and died after 18 November 1448;
  9. Sophie, married Wartislaw IX, Duke of Pomerania, and died 1462.

Erich IV, died 21 June 1412, and Sophie died before 28 May 1416.[2]
