Biography

Robert Carter Braxton IV was born on 7 July 1913 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. He was the son of Robert Carter Braxton III and Mary B. Price. In the 1920 census Robert (age 6) was the son of Robert C Braxton in Winston-Salem Ward 1, Forsyth, North Carolina.^[1] He lived in Richmond, Virginia, and then moved to Long Beach, California, in 1933. He graduated from Folsom High School in California. He attended Sacramento State College and the College of the Pacific in Stockton.

Robert registered for the draft on 16 October 1940 in Long Beach, Los Angeles, California. He was living with his mother at 1123 Appleton in Long Beach, and was an agent for Washington National Insurance.^[2] Braxton entered military service in 1942. He served over 27 years in the US Air Force, serving in World War II, Korea, and Vietnam.

Captain Robert Braxton married Lieutenant Leecy Eloise Frasier on 29 December 1957 in the Moody Air Force Base Chapel in Valdosta, Georgia. He was serving as executive officer of the Moody Air Force Base Hospital, and Lt. Frasier was serving on the nursing staff with the US Air Force Nurses Corps. Robert later worked as an insurance agent. He loved playing golf in Recreation Park in Long Beach, California, and also enjoyed ready, stamp and coin collecting, and antique cars.

Lt. Col. Braxton died on 3 November 2006 in hospital in El Paso, Texas.^[3] He was buried at Fort Bliss National Cemetery with full military honors.^[4][5][6]
