Research Notes

There are differing conclusions as to whether Lucy was a Page. She was probably not, as indicated by the following emails. However, we continue to show her as a Page to accommodate cross reference to research by those who claim she was a Page.

When reading your book I came across an entry
for Lucy Page and John Lee.
John Lee Jr. their son, married Elizabeth "Betsy" Page.
I think that Lucy was Lucy Seaton Braxton.
Stephen Lee named two of his children
one John Braxton Lee and one Seaton Lee.
I have never seen it posted as Lucy Page.
You might want to check with Dolores on this, but I
think that John Lee's mother was Lucy Seaton Braxton.

George and ALL, Lucy, the wife of John LEE and father of the John LEE who md. Betty PAGE, was NOT a PAGE. I didn't think that she was and said so in Part #8 of my Treatise. John Brach just informed me that Lucy was Lucy Seaton BRAXTON before her marriage to that John LEE.

Sources

There is no confirmed info that John Lee Sr was John James Lee. His son John James Lee could have obtained the James from his mothers line. There is no confimed info that Lucy was either a Seaton or Braxton. Son Braxton Lee was actaully Charles Braxton Lee so where may the name Charles come from? The Seatons and Braxtons were popular leaders of Virginia and many couples were leaving the traditional naming organization of the Church of England and began naming their children for famous Americans. We do know that John Lee is related to Henry Lee of Yorktown (ca 1640's) but do not know the route of this relation. Hopefully DNA may solve the long lost connection for both John Lee Sr and wife Lucy!

According to "Some descendants of Exolheath Page of Goochland Co., Virginia", Lucy's maiden name was Page. Her father was Joseph Page, Sr. ans mother was Elizabeth Paulin. The name Braxton comes from her Maternal grandmother's name, Elizabeth Braxton (Bracksktone). Also their son Stephen and his wife, Ann Poore, named a son Braxton and another one Seaton. I can only assume at this time that the names Braxton and Seaton are being used from Lucy's family names.

Elizabeth Paulin is generally listed as mother of Lucy Seaton Braxton. I believe than the mother was Mary Lumpkin: Birth 1678 • New Kent, Virginia, American Colonies

Death 1722 • Virginia, American Colonies
